The British Virgin Islands (“BVI”) takes part in numerous sporting competitions that are organised by clubs, federations, or associations. Sports in the BVI compete internationally, and the outcomes are impressive.

As sponsors of BDO Schools Football League, we are happy to announce, that after a long break, the BDO Schools Football League is back again!

At its largest before the Hurricane, the BDO Schools Football League had upwards of over 1,000 children and young adults across all age groups in primary and secondary schools making it the largest league of any sport in the BVI.

Ms. Cassandra Gregg has worked hard to make sure football continued during not following the Hurricanes of 2017, but also following the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. The BVIFA team has provided access to the "beautiful game" to as many youths as possible and has organised the leagues, which were divided into U7, U9, and U12 age groups with options for both boys and girls on each squad. Thirteen different schools will participate in the 2023 league, which will start on January 16th, 2023. Over the next few months, culminating in the finals at the end of March, there will be approximately 150 games planned across the age groups.

The BVI Football Association's advancements in the development of young players have been built on the grassroots youth program. Through the offer of international educational scholarships, it has also given young boys and girls the chance to travel abroad and further their education.

It is worth noting that, as a result of the success of the BDO Schools Football League, which BDO has been the title sponsor since 2011, most of the National Team members are now BVI-born players who had the opportunity to participate in the BDO Schools Football League. There are also several players which are currently playing (semi)-professional or for club teams in the UK and USA all of which are alumni of the League.
