EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
John is an insolvency, restructuring and legal practitioner with over 25 years extensive experience in the City of London and in the Caribbean specialising as a corporate, banking, trusts, insolvency and financial services lawyer.
Both as a lawyer and an insolvency practitioner he has been involved in some of the most high-profile cross border liquidations and restructurings covering UK, Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia, Middle East, USA, Latin American and Caribbean.
John was one of the founding partners of Withers BVI specialising in insolvency, banking, setting up and restructuring hedge funds, trusts and corporate entities.
He was a country managing partner in EY Law (LEX Caribbean) in the BVI where as a licensed insolvency practitioner took numerous appointments involving offshore investment companies, private equity and hedge funds and insurance companies.
Before returning to private practise John worked with the Bank of NT Butterfield, in Bermuda, and in the Cayman Islands. He was responsible for the provision of legal and compliance advice in respect of the groups global activities in treasury capital markets, asset management, investment management, custody, trusts and corporate services and fund administration functions.
John worked with HSBC Holdings plc for 7 years as a specialist insolvency lawyer in the bank’s receivership and realization unit and lending services department. He worked with the international division of HSBC in Latin America where he was involved in asset trading (debt trading) engaged in a number of debt for equity swaps in acquiring interest in a number of banks throughout Latin America. Represented HSBC on the Emerging Market Traders Association.
John acts as a director of a number of offshore companies and investment vehicles in BVI, Cayman Islands, Nevis, Ireland, Eastern Europe and Russia.
